Sartorius Quarter

The Hotel FREIgeist Göttingen Nordstadt and, for the first time, the FREIgeist Homes with 114 apartments, right in the heart of the newly created Sartorius Quarter on an area of around 24,000 m² in Göttingen Nordstadt between the city center and the university. This includes, among other things, a day-care center and 170 apartment rentals and 53 condominiums. In the center of the area, historical buildings such as the shed roof hall and the Sartorius tower have been preserved and, together with a completed new building, form the new health campus with event areas for up to 600 visitors. The health campus is a merger of UMG and HAWK, which was created for new courses in the health and care professions. 

Neighborhood

The neighborhood is also home to the Sartorius Life Science Factory. The research center for life science start-ups offers open offices, a prototyping workshop and new laboratory space with the latest equipment. The Ottobock Patient Care Center is also being built in the quarter,in cooperation with the Junge Rehabilitation Center. Patients from all over Germany as well as international guests can take advantage of both neurological rehabilitation and classic prescription therapy.

Architecture & Interior

In addition to the innovative gastronomy concepts, you will love our hotel for its impressive, unusual design, rooted in the location of the historic headquarters of Sartorius AG. The architecture picks up on this history, with industrial-style windows, exposed concrete and polished stone. As a warming contrast, the floors were laid with light-colored wood, and the back walls of the custom beds are made of larch wood. They also use another special feature: the yakisugi technique. This is the name of a traditional Japanese method of wood finishing, in which the top layer is charred to bring out the natural grain of the wood while making the material more resilient.
