The most beautiful Christmas markets

A winter holiday in the Harz is the perfect opportunity to visit one of the sparkling Christmas markets in the region. The Harz itself offers around 50 peaceful Christmas markets, but also larger cities such as are easily reachable from the hotel. In our cozy half-timbered town of Northeim there are also the ones that you can visit during a stay with us.

Skiing and snowboarding

Attractive downhill trails and different slopes for alpine skiers and snowboarders await you in the Harz. Bring your own equipment or use one of the many rentals. In one of the many ski schools in the Harz, beginners and advanced skiers learn to master the art of skiing. Soon you’ll be riding down the slopes together – that’s how your winter holiday in the Harz is the most fun.

After dark, the descents are not over yet. The floodlight ensures that you can also make the slopes unsafe in the evening. A special highlight is the night skiing on the Matthias-Schmidt-Berg in Sankt Andreasberg.

Cross-country skiing in the Harz

If you are a cross-country skiing fan, the winter holiday in the Harz is perfect for you. Varied trails with different straights of difficulty run through the mountainous landscape. Whether classic cross-country skiing or skating trail: you have the choice. Beautiful routes can be found around Altenau, Clausthal-Zellerfeld, Sankt Andreasberg, Schulenberg, Torfhaus and Wildemann.

Winter & snowshoe hiking

It becomes contemplative on a winter hike through the Harz. The snow glitters and crunches under the shoes. Cleared paths invite you to take a walk through the winter wonderland. If you prefer the untouched, snow-covered paths, go on a snowshoe hike through the deep snow instead. The guided tours start from Altenau and Clausthal-Zellerfeld.

Tobogganing in the Harz

Tobogganing is a great fun for the whole family. At high speed we go down the mountain together. Toboggan runs for your winter holiday in the Harz can be found in Altenau, Torhaus, Wildemann, Sankt Andreasberg, Schulenberg and Clausthal-Zellerfeld.

We would like to recommend the toboggan run in Torfhaus near Altenau: Here you have a wonderful view of the Brocken. In the evening the track is illuminated, so you can continue tobogganing in the dark. And the best part: you don’t have to drag the sled up again, but you can easily take the lift to the top.

Ice skating on the Harz holiday

In winter holiday in the Harz is guaranteed variety. Besides tobogganing, skiing and hiking, you can go ice-skating here. For this purpose, one hour away from the hotel, close to the Sole-Therme. On 1,000 m2, young and old can practice pirouettes in the open air or compete on skids. On Saturdays an ice disco is held here.

In Braunlage, also an hour’s drive from the Hotel FREIgeist Northeim, you can make your rounds regardless of the weather in the family-friendly ice rink. An ice disco and curling are also offered here.
